Jarod relieves The Centre of nearly 60 million dollars in order to perpetrate a Pretend that takes him to Venezuela as a dealer in illegal weapons. Jarod's purpose is to get close to Desmond Blake, an arms dealer who stole Ryan and Rebecca from his ex-wife, Wendy, and took them out of the country so that she could never find them again. The plight of Wendy and her children strikes Jarod close to home, since Desmond has told them that their mother was killed in an automobile accident while on the way to join them in Venezuela. That lie closely resembles the one The Centre told Jarod about his parents being killed in a plane crash while on the way to see him. With the help of the children's nanny, Emma, Jarod returns Ryan and Rebecca to Wendy and leaves Blake to be picked up by the Venezuelan authorities.
Jarod allows Blake to use Lyle's brand new Mercedes 500 SL for target practice, in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the SAM missiles he is offering for sale. Broots invents a new search program, which he calls "the hound," to cut down the amount of time that it takes to trace money that Jarod periodically extracts from Centre bank accounts. True to its name, Broots' hound tracks the money Jarod took from The Centre's Dover Town Bank account in a fraction of the time it would have taken him to do it manually. That allows Miss Parker and Mr. Lyle to arrive in Venezuela in time to capture Jarod -- but Jarod uses Blake's security team to capture Miss Parker and Lyle instead.
